If you already have a good working knowledge of QuarkXPress, this fast-paced one-day course will provide an introduction to the features and benefits of InDesign and help you to apply your existing skills to the new software.
If you need a general introduction to InDesign or have little experience with page layout programmes, our InDesign 1 course may better meet your needs.
This is a very hands-on course and you will have sole use of a networked Windows PC with all relevant software installed.

- Similarities and differences with QuarkXPress’ user interface
- Palettes, menus and how to manage them
- Tools and how to use them efficiently
- Preferences (emphasising the comparison with QuarkXPress)
- The Workspace, multiple views and document presets

- Creating tables in InDesign
- Linking text files
- Editing features, including Story Editor
- Hyphenation and spacing adjustments at a paragraph level

Note: This course is taught using Adobe CS3 and QuarkXPress 7.

Experienced QuarkXPress users who need a quick introduction to InDesign, and design and production managers and others who are considering purchasing the software.
This course is for those who already have a good working knowledge of QuarkXPress. If you need a general introduction to InDesign, see our InDesign 1 course.
Your tutor
Meg Richardson is a freelance graphic designer, typographer, book binder and trainer who has worked for a wide range of clients, designing and illustrating anything from small booklets to large academic volumes. Meg has been a visiting lecturer at Oxford Brookes University and De Montford University. Her limited edition artists’ books are in major collections such as the Tate Britain and the British Library.
Note that most of our short courses can also be run as in company events.
